The Leto Story

I'm originally from Nashville in the USA but currently attend and live at the University of Chicago. I study Public Policy, Arabic and French. Hopefully if I'm alive after four years of college, I'll be able to get a job to support my DJ'ing addiction. Music has always been an important part of my life, especially percussion. I played tenors in Drum Corps at my high school (not anymore) and play the djembe (west african hand drum)...all the time. I also have started trying to learn how to produce, but I can't promise you anything. Don't even ask.

I first got into electronic music at age 5 listening to The Orb and Art of Noise. Then, I moved on to The Crystal Method and other breaks artists. In middle school living in the Virgin Islands, the dark ages began, where I listened to non-electronic music. Then, I found The Crystal Method again, and started buying as many electronic music CD's that I could find. Eventually, Bonkers 10 came around, and I heard Sharkey's mix. That sealed the deal for me. After hearing that epic mix, hardcore took up the majority of the space on my hard drive.

Of course, DJ'ing is a big part of the whole music thing. At 18 years old, I've been DJ'ing for 4 years, which means I was practically an infant when I began having aspirations to be a DJ. As for my DJ name, it originally comes from Dune, which makes me quite possibly the nerdiest human being alive, but at least it's not DJ 1370 or DJ L3TO, (hint: S3RL :P). Then I found out that it means summer in many slavic languages, which was an awesome coincidence. So, DJ Leto stuck. It's pronounced Lee-toh by the way.

Anyway, I got started promoting my own events in high school, determined to get a fully functioning, rocking rave at some point. Three years and seven tries led to a success!! Along the way, I developed my skills (and am still developing them) and began recording mixes for DI.fm's hardcore channel. There, I met Virtual Xtc, and after some nights of hot conversation, the Global Hardcore Alliance was born. I used to report digital release news for happyhardcore.com, and I try to bring exposure to smaller digital artists who deserve it. As for the future, I hope to become a regular at raves in Chicago and one day make it to the UK.

My biggest influences as a DJ are Kevin Energy, The Crystal Method and Elite Force. My favorite hardcore producers are Darwin, Orbit1, Cube::Hard, Al Storm, Kurt, Arkitech and Luna C. I use Traktor Pro, a Macbook Pro, M-Audio Fastrack Pro and Numark Total Control and my hands.
