The Jimo Story
I first got into electronic dance music in early 1999 when I was 9 years old. My dad worked for a telecommunications company so we were able to get so called “cheap high-speed internet”. I spent most of my time browsing around the internet for new music releases and playing games such as Half-Life which I managed to buy when it was very first released. After searching for quite a while I came across the CD release of the song “Gamemaster” by Lost Tribe (http://www.discogs.com/Lost-Tribe-Gamemaster/master/48025) and ever since then I have wanted more. I eventually borrowed my dad’s record player and took a trip to the local record store where I found a lot more Trance and Hardcore music which I then took home to listen to. At this time I hadn’t heard Hardcore at all until I heard Pilgrim 2000 by Scott Brown which really captivated me into the genre. Hardcore was really hard to find then and I couldn’t afford to keep buying records. With the internet constantly getting better I went there to see if I could find something there. I looked for a really long and couldn’t find anything until the year 2002. I eventually found the holy grail of Hardcore when I discovered Happyhardcore.com radio in late 2002. I enjoyed listening to Happyhardcore.com radio a lot and eventually I also discovered Digitally Imported radio as well, where the Trance channel became my second favourite for quite a while.
It wasn’t until 2005, after being inspired by people such as Armin van Buuren, Milo and Silver where I decided to go out and buy my own turntables. I figured why not, I had a huge record collection and I felt I was ready to learn and to take up a hobby. I bought myself two Pioneer CDJ-800s from the local music shop, Guildford Sound & Light. I had to break into my savings to buy my set-up but I haven’t regretted it one bit and I was inseparable from it for a really long time. And I still am, if I’m to be honest. After improving my skills a lot and learning over the years, I acquired myself a pair of CDJ-1000mk3s and a DJM-700 which I still use today.
Today I am releasing a monthly mix series for my website and creating regular mixes for the Digitally Imported Hardcore and Trance channel. I also play occasional live sets on NERadio Sweden after being introduced to them by DJ Bluecore in 2008. I’m also work on producing my own tracks to weave into my sets.
